COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

DYNAMICS OF BIBLICAL CHANGE

The way that you care for other people is determined by how you understand God, yourself, other people, life’s pressures, and change. This course addresses the depth, breadth, and balance of your understanding. How does Christ’s past grace, present grace, and future grace speak to our hearts and change how we live our daily lives? This course is about people. It is about how we face the troubles of life. It is about how we deal with our inner struggles. It is about how we change into Jesus’ image. Through case studies, class lectures, assigned readings, and Scripture, you’ll explore these practical questions. Self-counseling projects will help you to make first-hand, practical application of the concepts learned in class.

BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION

All of Scripture is sufficient for counseling, but how do you connect God’s word effectively to the lives and struggles of people around you? Do you always turn to the same familiar passages, and are less confident in using others to communicate the power of God’s love and faithfulness in the Gospel? How do you use the Bible’s redemptive story in counseling so that counselees grow in their knowledge of and love for the sovereign Lord? This course will help you understand both people and the Bible more thoroughly and is designed to strengthen your ability to rivet Scriptural truth to real-life ministry situations. Through lectures, class discussion, and interpretive assignments, you’ll develop your skills in interpreting and applying any passage of Scripture to help people to grow in love for God and others more fully in the midst of their complex, daily lives.

NOTE: Previously taking Dynamics of Biblical Change is a prerequisite for taking the Biblical Interpretation course.

ONLINE LEARNING + COHORT LEARNING

Both Dynamics of Biblical Change and Biblical Interpretation are online courses requiring you to watch lectures and complete assignments at home (if taken for credit). Each class has four cohort meetings that are designed to help you engage in a group environment that will emphasize hands-on application of what you are learning at home. They will take place via video conference call on four different occasions, as set up by your Recitation Instructor.

The courses are taught at a graduate level though no prior degree is required. To view an introductory video, see course descriptions, course outline, syllabus, and required textbooks, visit the link for Dynamics of Biblical Change and Biblical Interpretation.

Certificates in Biblical Counseling

CCEF believes that counseling is a vision for the entire church. Because of that, they’ve created an in-depth counseling educational program that provides equipping and training for everyone in all ministry contexts. While CCEF is not an accredited institution, they do offer a robust certificate program. Certificates represent that a student has successfully completed courses in the program. Students who are working toward a certificate represent diverse backgrounds and ministry goals–they are pastors, youth ministers, counselors, small group leaders, laypeople, missionaries, businessmen and women, retirees, and more.

Cost

The tuition for each class is $540 if taken for credit towards a certificate, and $260 if audited. This is basically a 20% tuition reduction because DCC is a partner church with CCEF’s School of Biblical Counseling. To learn more about CCEF’s School of Biblical Counseling and the classes and certificates they offer, please visit them online.

In order for a course to be applied towards gaining a certificate, it must be taken “for credit”. Auditing the class is a less expensive option, but taking the course “for credit” connects you with the Recitation Instructor who will provide grades and feedback on all of your assignments, facilitating growth and understanding.
