THE LIFE PROJECT

We desire to help the most vulnerable among us: the unborn. Abortion is the leading cause of death in Washington state (over 17,000 in 2016). Washington was in the top 15 states with the highest abortion rates in 2014, with more than half (52.5%) of the state’s abortions occur in Pierce and King Counties. We are partnering with Care Net of Puget Sound in the effort to help women who find themselves in these difficult situations, to provide the necessary resources to make the most informed decision possible.

GOD’S CONCERN FOR THE UNBORN

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:13-16)

As Christ followers, we believe that life begins at conception and that all life matters to the One who creates us, because we are made in His image. God calls us to pursue justice for all, which includes speaking up for the tiniest voices that cannot speak up yet. He knows each of us more deeply than we can ever imagine, including when our physical characteristics are being formed within our mother’s wombs. We are also called to love the women and mothers who carry these babies when scripture says, “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause” (Isaiah 1:17). We work to show women that she and the child she carries are already just as loved by God. As we strive for saving the unborn child, we also strive to help heal the women and men in these situations as well. We do this because our Father loves us so much that He was born a man, lived a sinless human life, and died a death He did not deserve, in our place. When we fully grasp this, our hearts are forever changed to desire what He desires – that none of his children should perish.

OUR PARTNER: CARE NET PREGNANCY & FAMILY SERVICES

Care Net Pregnancy & Family Services is the largest pregnancy resource center in Puget Sound (6 centers, 35 staff, 450 volunteers). Rooted in Biblical truths about life, they have locations in Federal Way, Kenmore, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Puyallup, and Tacoma. Pre-Covid, they had an ultrasound mobile unit located in certain Seattle areas (which DCC helped spearhead with Save The Storks in 2016-2017) and presently have a second mobile unit operating on the Eastside. They hope to get that mobile operating — God-willing within 2019 — with the final push for the capital funding needed.

ABORTION AT A GLANCE

In Washington:

  • In 2016, almost 1 in 6 pregnancies resulted in an abortion (17,093 of 107,582 pregnancies)
  • There were 50 abortion-providing facilities in Washington in 2014, and 33 of those were clinics. (An 11% increase since 2011).
  • In 2018, for the 9th consecutive year, Americans United for Life ranked Washington State as the worst in the nation in terms of legal protections for women and their unborn children.
  • Washington does not have any of the major types of abortion restrictions—such as waiting periods, mandated parental involvement or limitations on publicly funded abortions—often found in other states.

Nationally:

  • 1 in 4 U.S. women will have an abortion by age 45.
  • Nationwide, 12% of abortions were performed on adolescents (17 years of age and younger) and 61% on women in their 20s.
  • In 2014, 75% of women obtaining abortions were poor or low-income.
  • Minorities are at a disproportionately high risk of being targeted by abortion (2-3x more likely)
