Care & Counseling Ministries Update | March 2026
Care Ministry | by Pastor Luke Davis

This note is a snapshot of our Care & Counseling Ministries in DCC, where we work to foster a gospel culture of mutually encouraging relationships in our life together.
GOSPEL FRAMEWORK
Our Creator designed us for unbounded delight in him. Yet, in our fallen world, we often perceive a distressing gap between our felt satisfaction and our desired contentment. What are we to do with this? In sin, covetousness comes alive within our hearts. Our souls rebel against God’s sovereign allotment. And we reason that the only way to close that gap is to add more. A single person may covet the addition of a partner, expecting a spouse to satisfy. Or we may covet additional income, believing that greater financial security answers our need.
But we know from experience that the logic of covetousness is like a hamster wheel—adding more never truly satisfies and simply propels us further along the cycle of dissatisfaction. The Gospel tells us a different story. Instead of addition, subtraction is the answer to our ache for delight. God made us to find our satisfaction in Him alone, regardless of our circumstances. Mary of Bethany chose the “one thing” necessary: Jesus.
But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:40-42
Friends, are you on the hamster wheel of covetousness? Repent and turn from the emptiness of what God forbids in the 10th commandment (Exod 20:17). Turn and entrust yourself entirely to the King who made a way back to Himself through the cross.

COUNSELING REQUEST
Our Counseling Ministry serves and counsels through one-on-one meetings. We have a team of trained counselors who are ready to get together over 4-6 sessions, or longer, to carefully listen, aid, and point to the teachings of Christ our Cornerstone. For example, our team of peer counselors would love to help you endure grief, take steps to put a persistent sin to death, come out from under the domination of anxiety, and much more by allowing God’s word to shape how we face challenges. To learn more about meeting with a Counseling Team member or to request counseling, click here.
RECOMMENDED BOOK ON ANXIETY
We carry loads of terrific titles in our bookstore. Check out Anxiety: Knowing God’s Peace by Paul Tautges. This approachable 31-day devotional invites the reader to bring their nagging worry and panic to the Lord of hope. I have shared it with several DCCers and heard solid feedback.
MINI-BOOKS
Our ministry stocks around 100 booklets that offer biblical wisdom for everyday challenges. Titles range from Bitterness to Grieving with Hope to Miscarriage and more. These accessible titles are available at the lobby desk just outside the auditorium for a $3 donation or as a gift. We also have about a dozen titles related to parenting in the CKids lobby downstairs.
