As we kick off this advent season, we want to demonstrate the love of Christ in action. We are not only here to proclaim the good news of Jesus in our city but also to be good news to our city. Therefore, over the month of December will be “Adopting-a-Neighbor” in two primary ways – corporately as a church and separately as communities. We encourage you to participate as you are able. [Note: If you are in need of particular help in this season, please let us know by emailing .]

Adopt-a-neighbor: Cornerstone Communities

This will be an opportunity for each of our Cornerstone Communities to serve an individual, a family, or an organization during the month of December. For example, do you have a connection to an immigrant family, a single mom, a real change seller, or a homeless individual that you could adopt in this season? Is there an organization that is meeting needs that you’d like to specifically partner with this month? Take some time to talk with your community and decide how/where/who you want to serve/give/adopt this month. Focus on making it relational, involving people.

Adopt-a-neighbor: White Center Heights Elementary

About 90% of the schools students that attend WCHES receive free or reduced price meals, meaning many parents are struggling to put food on the table for their family. This year, the school teachers and staff decided to take on the goal of providing all of the students with a sweatshirt as a “winter” present, as many of the students don’t have proper winter clothes and are cold at recess. Their goal is to raise 550 sweatshirts, and we want to help them get there!

The details:

  • Bring in any new sweatshirt(s) (zip up, hoodie, etc.) this Sunday through December 15th, to our Sunday gatherings. There will be a receptacle next to the connect desk you can place all sweatshirts in.
  • Although we don’t have a list of exact sizes, here’s how the ages break down:

– 6th grade (12 yrs old) – about 65
– 5th grade (11 yrs) – about 65
– 4th grade (10 yrs) – about 65
– 3rd grade (9 yrs) – about 80
– 2nd grade (8 yrs) – about 90
– 1st grade (7 yrs) – a little over 100
– Kinder (6 yrs) – about 80

  • If there are any questions, don’t hesitate to email .

Whatever you and your community ends up doing, get creative, be generous, and ask Jesus to give you and your community a vision for incarnating the love of Christ this season. In Christ we have been given much. By Him and through Him we have much to give.
